Why I Decided to do Another 30 Day Plank Challenge
Background
Two reasons why I decided to do this challenge again.
I needed something to focus on for the month of May that was not apart of my daily routine consisting of work and my workouts. I needed to focus on something that would distract me in a positive way and help me get through another month of stay at home.
I really wanted to compare and contrast what my experience would be like doing this a second go around. I chronicled the first challenge in blog posts, Instagram posts and each day I did the challenge.
Purpose
This plank challenge was never about completing the 30 days. These challenges were and will always be focused on the notion of challenging our mind, body and souls. Knowing that we can try new things, develop discipline and discover new things about ourselves.
July 2019 Challenge vs May 2020 Challenge
July 2019
When I wrapped up the challenge. I wrote and I am quoting myself “ Will I continue beyond 30 days? I would of course incorporate planks into my workout regimen but never again for 30 days straight :)”. This is hilarious to read as I know better than to say never.
This challenge was hard for me but everyday I was able to get through the schedule. I was able to hold the plank with the natural progression of increased time day in day out.
I did the planks everyday after work. I talked myself through each plank I held. You can hear me speaking on all the videos.
I did this challenge alone.
Primarily I wanted to get better at deadlifts besides of course being patient and practicing. Additional exercises that someone like myself could use to assist with deadlifts are the plank.
May 2020
This go around holding planks are easy for me. I know without a doubt I can get to 5 minutes with no problem. While still hard they are easier compared to last year.
I do the planks first thing in the morning.
I prefer not to speak through the planks.
I am not doing this challenge alone. There are many folks who are participating!
I am more excited about them compared to last year.

Conclusion
Now that I have gone through this almost a second round. Last day is this Saturday, May 30th. There is something about going back to basics. Remembering where you started and physically being able to see how one has grown. I am proud of my progression.
Will I do the plank challenge again? I say yes!
I hope that sharing my personal experience can aide in your own personal journeys as you continue to work on your own personal fitness and nutrition goals.
